Snow-Helmet-Rating-4-Stars

Retail Price:
$100

Recommended Use:

All snow sports

Standout Features:

XL sizing, super cool vents

The Giro Nine is cheap at $100 and lacks only a few features as compared to other styles by Giro

The Giro Nine is a veteran helmet, coming a long way (a decade to be exact) in the snow gear realm. In 2001 we saw it labeled 'The Nine', 2008 it came back with "The G9", 2012 was "The Nine.10", and for 2015, for whatever reason, they've decided to change the name back to it's OG label, "The Nine". Regardless of the indecisiveness of it's name, the Nine remains the same backbone of a helmet Giro has had since '01. The key features of Giro's tool-belt and being a retail price of an even Benjamin, this helmet is incredibly affordable yet premier at the same time.

The Giro Nine stack ventilation

Giro's stack ventilation tech to help with goggle fog that sometimes arises with brimmed helmets

The in-mold construction, a popular among Giro's top helmets, is great for absorbing contact in case you ever fall (but you never do, right?) and need a decrease in the chances of a concussion. The low profile design is streamlined, offering their thermostat control vents -- another popular technology for Giro helmets -- allowing you to turn off/on the venting system to keep your head happy in differing conditions.

One of the other standout features of this helmet is the XL sizing, as we've seen only a few helmets in the entire market offer this. At 100$, it is a step below the Giro Montane if you are looking to save a little more money (30$ cheaper retail) yet still grab a helmet that has some of Giro's key features. Compliant in the two major certifications and combined with their in-mold construction, safety with this hard hat is trustworthy. The only decision you may have to make with this is missing on a few features in order to afford it at 100$. Otherwise, do some more shopping with Giro's catalog, you may want to spend an extra few dollars for a helmet with more tech.

AdvantagesDisadvantages
  • Bang for your buck: Only $100 retail
  • Custom fitting system
  • Stack ventilation for goggle anti-fog
  • Lacks a few key Giro features, such as the X-static padding or trip clip carry system, as seen in the Montane or Edit
