UPDATE #1 May 29th, 2013 - I received info from a friend that all is not lost.  As of last week, the gates were opened at the top of Tapia.  All trails were accessible, including G-Out, dogtag, sidewinder and for play.  Kona was also accessible, however, the bottom half of the trail is mush and it is just not fun to ride.  I will continue to update this post weekly as to the status of Tapia Canyon for MTB riding.

Original post - This sign now sits next to a barb wired fence at the top of the Tapia Canyon Fire road near the power lines.  It is so frustrating to see as Tapia Canyon, located in Castaic, CA, is one of the most fun places to Mountain Bike in all of Southern California.  According to some people we talked to, it was closed down due to some new homes being built.  I have no idea where they plan on putting homes and I will add to this post once I find out more.

We operate a retail shop and corporate headquarters in Valencia, CA and Tapia is our local riding spot of choice (Just 5 miles away!).  I have been to other MTB trails in Southern California, but none of the trails compare (so far).  This hill was the perfect mix of challenging uphill mixed with multiple single track downhill trails.  We would see people traveling as far as Orange County to ride here.

I would like to say a few things.  First, I would like to thank everyone that built this trail over many, many years.  You have given me so many hours of enjoyment and I am now hooked on MTB riding.  According to Strava, the trail has been ridden over 5000 times just with those of us who use the Strava app.  I am sure over the years, the total is many times that number.  Here is a YouTube Link to over 2900 videos of people riding Tapia Canyon.
